Candlelight Vigil
Hundreds of people braved the below-freezing temperatures on New Years Day to honor Don Belton at a candlelight vigil at the Monroe County Courthouse.
Below is some coverage of the event:

Thank you to everyone who attended. It was wonderful to see so many people there.

Thank you so much for posting the articles and images from the vigil last night. I wasn’t able to be there, but I’m so pleased that so many other were.
How can anyone ask the prosicutor to disreguard any claims by the defendant ? Let all of the facts, all the facts, be heard and the guilty be punished.
JD– site administrators are not saying disregard the facts or asking that a defendant not be able to make a claim. We’re saying there is a long history of such claims being regarded as ‘weakening’ a case when the victim is a gay person, not to mention racial minority, when such claims likely would not be viewed as weakening a case otherwise. We’re saying we must remain vigilant to ensure that Don Belton’s life is not viewed as somehow less worthy or as somehow more ‘controversial’ due to his identity.
My friends in Hawaii whom I’d told about Don’s coming–and then about his death–looked at the site and the photogallery of the vigil and were very moved.
